Calgary

Goslings; lots of goslings in Calgary.

…but none of them want to play with Dave. He’ll have to stick to Chipmunks and Columbian Ground Squirrels.

One last train for Jorge; the Calgary tram.
Afternoon tea at the Fairmont.

Stuart waves goodbye to Calgary; to Canada and to his chances of getting a Mountie hat.

Banff & Lake Louise

The Bow Falls on the Bow River at Banff. You’ll have to ignore Stuart; he’s sulking because he wants a Mountie hat and there aren’t any.

Dave at the Banff hot springs with water bubbling up from the ground.

Even a dark cave isn’t cheering Stuart up; perhaps it’s because it smells like Jorge’s feet.

Lake Louise is still frozen.

Vancouver

A sweltering day in Vancouver; Stusrt headed straight for the Gelato. Naturally it’s Maple now that we’re in Canada.

Vancouver has list of little inlets and creeks; little water taxi’s ferry you around.

Dave even saw some deals from the boat but they were to far away to photograph.

All the boats moored in English Bay  beyond Vanier park.

The big birds nest in the tree is an eagle’s nest; but no Eagles were seen.

The museum looks like a UFO and has a giant crab in front of it.

Dave admires the view of the bay at sunset from prospect point.

Boeing

Stuart at the Boeing factory; lots of new planes lined up in the background.
Piloting a 727; need a bit of help from Dave to reach the yoke.
Airplane parts are really big; this is the tail of a noeing 747.
Engines sre big too; this is from a 777.

Seattle

The Frank Gehry designed EMP museum. Jorge is waiting for the Monorail to come through.

Totem Pole

Monorail! Jorge is happy.

Bonneville Dam

We overnight at Cascade Locks on the banks of the mighty Columbia River. The hotel boasts river views which also means train track views; Jorge is happy!

The Bonneville dam is just downstream. This is turbine house 2.

Each turbine rotates at 70rpmand produces enough power to light a small town.

The dam doesn’t store water; the excess is let through the spillway.

There are fish ladders to let fish get up-river to spawn. The viewing ports allow the fish to be seen and counted.

Spruce Goose

The Evergreen Space and Aviation Museum is home to the Spruce Goose. Howard Hughes’ giant wooden flying boat.

Stuart got a tour of the cockpit; he even got a Howard Hughes hat.
Dave and Jorge were left in control of the engines.
