Miniversum

The boys have found a model railway exhibition.

Stuart with a model of the Architecture Museum in the park.

Jorge is father excited about just how big the model railway is!

A tower on a hill? Probably a local Hungarian landmark.

Jorge has control of the Pioneer railway; spinning the wheel makes the little train move along.

And in the next room was a model with highlights of Austrian and German railways…

Hungarian Parliament

It’s on the Pest side; Dave checked!

The building is in the Neo-Gothic style and was inspired by the Palace of Westminster in London; although ut has a dome rather than bell towers.

It’s equally decorative on the inside.

The stairs up from the main entrance.

The upper chamber; it’s not used any more.

Buda!

There’s an argument going on because Jorge got it wrong in the last posting; they’re in Buda not Pest even though the pun only works when they’re in Pest.

Dave trying to prove himself right.

Meanwhile Stuart is in heaven with more cake. Caramel cake today:

There are also tunnels; this one appears to be open.

This one is shut.

Pest; the city not “Stuart is a…”

There is a funicular railway to get to the top of the hill.

The Mátyás Church is the famous church in old Pest.

Behind the Church is the Fishermans Bastion that overlooks the river.

It’s very ornate.

Lots of towers and collinades and stuff.
looking back towards the church.

Trying to shelter from the blazing sun in the ruins of a monastry right next door.

Knock-knock; anyone in?

Stuart eats everything

Cakes are part of Hungarian culture so Stuart thought he’d partake of a little culture.

Stuart had to check that this one tasted as nice as the first one.

Roast goose leg, cabbage, dumpling and potatos.

Maybe just enough room for an ice-cream.

The Blue Danube

Looks green to Jorge!

Stuart on the embankment in Pest with royal palace in Buda in the background.

The Liberty bridge with the Gellet Hotel and the Liberation Monument on the far side.

Outside the market hall.

Then Dave pushed Jorge and Jorge fell on Stuart and Stuart landed in the water and there was much squabbling whilst Stuart dried off.

55 Broadway

The Boys have obtained visitor passes to 55 Broadway; headquarters of London Underground.
The building was built in the 1930s and is an Art Deco masterpiece.
The interior retains all it’s original features; travertine marble, brass fittings and fixtures, wooden doors and panelling.

This was Londons first tall office buiding; the views from the top are quite spectacular. Stuart is looking south.
Dave is looking east across the West End towards the City Of London. Try to spit Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, The London Eye and the Shard

These dials were used to measure the intervals between the trains running on the tube lines.

GIB

GIB is the code for Gibraltar airport and commonly used as shorthand for the place.

The Cuban bar; reminds Dave of Havanna.

Can’t cross the runway whilst planes are landing; that would result in squished a Minion. You have to walk across the runway to reach the airport.

Gibraltar Docks

A lesiurely afternoon stroll through the docks at Gibraltar.

They’re repairing scientific vessels with big helicopter pads.

Africa; there be Lions!
A tunnel to keep Stuart happy; Dave was actually looking for the 100ton gun; but found a swimming pool instead.
